04 Taurus SOHC. While replacing the a/c compressor clutch I failed to remove the negative battery terminal and grounded the positive terminal of the alternator to the motor. After reassembly the “check charging system” light is on. Three alternators later, it is still on (didn’t have the 1st two tested before installation).
Symptoms
Check charging system light comes on a few seconds after starting car
If battery shows 12.4 volts when car not running, it shows 11.8 or so upon starting the car
Positive terminal of alternator does not appear to be putting out a charge when tested there w/multimeter.
Any suggestions before I give up and take it somewhere? Is there a fusible link or something that I burnt up? PCM? |

Phil, pretty sure there is a maxi fuse or fusible link, not sure which that car has, that is burnt.
Check your owners manual for the fuse box diagram. _________________ My YouTube Channel:
